![]() Personally I'd say either go free with the original freeware, or go whole hog and get the Switch version. It's a great game no matter how you play it. Honestly there's not really a wrong way to get Cave Story. ![]() we have no way to know if pixel still genuinely likes cave story enough to want to put it on other platforms / make spinoffs. ![]() I wouldn't recommend it as your first Cave Story, but it's something cool none the less. Nicalis sort of ruined cave story in a way. It's a good looking game, but lacks any extras. You could also could hunt down Cave Story 3D for the 3DS which is a full 3D remake. If you want a physical version you can purchase the Switch version which is probably the most definitive version of Cave Story with further graphical and soundtrack options. It has added features like a boss rush, extra areas, optional soundtracks and graphics. If you want to play a slightly enhanced version of Cave Story, there's Cave Story+ on Steam. If you just want to play Cave Story in its original form for free, you can download the freeware version at. Now with that out of the way here are your options. Now the CEO of Nicalis is a major douchebag, but that's a different issue. Pixel (the creators) DOES make money off of Cave Story sales, and in fact has been able to become a full time independent game designer thanks to the profits, so do not let anyone tell you he was conned out of the rights to his own game.
